Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader
of Christian Science.

Longyear Museum, conveniently located just outside Boston and easily accessible by public transportation, offers exhibits, publications, and programs on the life of one of America's most noted women, Mary Baker Eddy. Mrs. Eddy discovered Christian Science in 1866 and spent over 40 years making her discovery known through healing, writing, and teaching. Mary Baker Eddy's major work on Christian Science is Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.

MUSEUM ENTRANCE

The exhibit "Mary Baker Eddy: A Spiritual Journey" traces the major events of Mrs. Eddy's life, from her girlhood in rural New Hampshire to her founding of the Church of Christ, Scientist. Her remarkable life history - a story of courage and triumph against tremendous odds - engages interest and respect, regardless of one's religious background.

"The Baker Family" allows visitors to "listen in" to Baker family conversations preserved in their correspondence, and to glimrpse their daily life through original artifacts.

"Imparting a Fresh Impulse: Mary Baker Eddy Teaches the Class of 1898" portrays Mrs. Eddy’s role as teacher, mentor, friend, and Leader through the Museum’s collection of portrait images, reminiscences, and other documents on early students of Christian Science.
