Work
began on the exterior of the Mary Baker Eddy Historic House in
Amesbury in 1999 and was completed in 2002.Restoration of
the kitchen ell, roof and foundation was addressed first. Then
excavation was done, rotted sills replaced and a new entrance
deck constructed. More recently, some clapboards and trim were
replaced, remaining roof work done and the exterior repainted.
Interestingly, since there is original material still left on
the structure, a paint analysis (study of the layers of existing
paint) was done, recommending a complete color change for historical
accuracy to the period in which Mrs. Eddy lived in the house.
