On Sunday, June 5, Longyear invites visitors to an afternoon film showing at the Museum, or to take free guided tours at three of the Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses in Massachusetts.
Join us at Longyear at 2:00 pm to learn more about the most recent Longyear Museum Press book, Paths of Pioneer Christian Scientists, published in December 2010. In this video recording of a book talk given in December, the book’s author and editor share discoveries that came to light during the research and writing of this publication.
Paths of Pioneer Christian Scientists profiles four pioneering workers in the Christian Science movement: Emma and Abigail Dyer Thompson, Janette Weller, and Annie M. Knott. Each one came to this new religion in the 1880s in need of healing. The healings that resulted proved to be new beginnings, as each dedicated her life to healing others.
To purchase this book, please visit the Museum Store at Longyear, visit our online store, or call 800.277.8943, ext. 100.
Three of Longyear Museum’s Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses are open for free guided tours — at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00pm on Sunday, June 5.
The historic houses in the Museum’s collection trace Mrs. Eddy’s footsteps as Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science. Each house marks a stage in Mrs. Eddy’s life, and her story is rekindled for visitors as they cross each threshold to stand in the very rooms where she lived and worked. These landmarks help bring the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to life, and illuminate the history of one of the most noted women of her day.
Visitors are invited to tour the houses in Swampscott, Lynn, and Chestnut Hill. Of special interest will be the opportunity to see the exterior restoration of the Lynn historic house. For images, brief videos, and information about the restoration, please visit Lynn Restoration page.
For more information about these June 5 events, please call 800.277.8943, ext. 100.
