Longyear Hosts New England Museum Association Workshop

July 25, 2011

Three Longyear employees joined museum professionals from Massachusetts and Rhode Island for a New England Museum Association (NEMA) professional development workshop in the Longyear Portrait Gallery on June 23.

The group gathered for “Banish the Boring: Developing Effective Presentations,” an interactive skill-building session. Workshop presenters Dan Yaeger, Executive Director of NEMA, and Susie Wilkening, Senior Consultant at Reach Advisors, addressed a variety of topics related to public speaking. Participants then collaborated on group presentations, followed by informal peer feedback sessions. The afternoon program also included a networking luncheon and opportunities for workshop attendees to learn about Mary Baker Eddy and Longyear while visiting the Museum’s galleries.

Longyear is a member of NEMA, an organization whose membership is comprised of museums, historical societies, and libraries located in New England. Longyear employees participate in a variety of NEMA-sponsored educational and training programs that enhance knowledge of best practices in the museum field, and encourage networking among local museum professionals.
