Message from the Longyear Museum Board of Trustees

Dear Friends,

At Longyear, we feel a strong sense of stewardship in using your contributions wisely. And considering the current worldwide financial picture, we are especially grateful to all those who have responded to our needs this year.

And there are significant needs. For example, in 2006 generous friends enabled Longyear to purchase Mary Baker Eddy’s homes in Lynn and Chestnut Hill, thus saving these important sites from being lost forever. We pray to know that those who encouraged us to purchase the houses — and also our new friends — will see the necessity of restoring and maintaining these important landmarks for future generations. We have just begun. There is an ongoing need for funds for our historic houses.

There is also a need for strong support to carry on the important everyday work of the Museum as we fulfill our mission to advance the understanding of the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science.

Our agenda remains full, and we urgently need your support to accomplish it. We ask you to make an Annual Appeal gift today and to consider increasing your gift made in previous years.

During this past year, Annual Appeal gifts have played a crucial role in:

• Research and production of Longyear Press publications, online articles, a new historical documentary film to be released in 2012, and the reprinting of Paths of Pioneer Christian Scientists.
• Preservation and restoration of the Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses and our historical collection, including completing the exterior restoration of the house in Lynn, Massachusetts.
• Sharing our research and collection with visitors through exhibits and guided tours, including the fall tour of Mary Baker Eddy’s New England.
• Educational programs such as a week-long Mary Baker Eddy history tour for The Principia School Junior Class, funded by a Museum member.
