In April 2011, Tom Fuller, who holds a D.Sc. in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, gave an illustrated talk at Longyear Museum in which he examined the natural sciences in the light of Christian Science by considering the remarkable twentieth-century discoveries in astronomy, chemistry, and quantum physics.
In this talk, he illustrated the importance of humility and inspiration as scientists like Einstein, Heisenberg, and Hubble penetrated thought barriers to make their discoveries. Christian Science represents (and demands) an even more profound breakthrough. Mary Baker Eddy’s writings anticipated in several important ways these twentieth century discoveries. For example, decades before physicists would agree with her, she wrote: "We tread on forces. Withdraw them, and creation must collapse." And decades before Hubble established the relationship between red-shifted light from nebulae and distances in the expanding universe, Mrs. Eddy recorded: "The light of spiritual understanding gives gleams of the infinite only, even as nebulae indicate the immensity of space."
