Longyear’s Director of Development Gives Harvest Weekend Keynote Address

November 21, 2011

Anne McCauley, Longyear’s Director of Development, was the keynote speaker at Harvest Weekend at Camp Kohahna in Leelanau, Michigan, last month. On Saturday, October 8, Harvest Weekend participants heard her address, “Getting to Know the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science: Insights on the Spiritual Journey of Mary Baker Eddy.”

During her presentation, Anne remarked, “I was asked to prepare a talk that might inspire all of you to know Mary Baker Eddy better. What I have to share is a review of her great life as Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science, illustrated with historic photographs from the Longyear collection, and recounted with selections from her writings.”

The following day, Anne gave a talk titled, “Mary Baker Eddy’s Homes – What They Can Teach Us.” During this presentation, she highlighted the historic significance and the exterior restoration of the historic house in Lynn, Massachusetts, and reviewed the other seven historic houses in the Longyear Museum collection. She described how these houses serve as tools that trace Mrs. Eddy’s footsteps as the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science.

The Camp Leelanau and Camp Kohahna website describes Harvest Weekend in part, as follows: “This annual gathering of Christian Science women is an occasion to enjoy a weekend filled with unique opportunities. Quiet time, walks along the beach, evening bonfires, hiking the sand dunes, canoe trips, trying a high ropes course or the camp climbing wall, or enjoying an evening in front of the fire singing hymns are some of the activities enjoyed at Harvest Weekend… .”

“It was a privilege to spend time with a wonderful group of women and have a chance to share some of the events in Mrs. Eddy’s life that stand out to me as meaningful and significant,” Anne said.
