Stephen R. Howard, Longyear’s Director•Curator gave an illustrated talk entitled “Retrospection and Introspection: A Legacy of Enduring Value” to the Tenacre community on Wednesday, November 16.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote Retrospection and Introspection at a crucial period in her life, when the future seemed uncertain for her in many areas — with regard to her church as well as her own life. During the period 1889–1891, Mrs. Eddy set aside organizational burdens and devoted herself to revising Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and several of her shorter writings. Her book Retrospection and Introspection comes forth from this period as a remarkable gift and legacy.
Stephen has devoted more than a quarter century of his professional career to the study of the life of Mary Baker Eddy. He has been Director/Curator of Longyear Museum since 1997 and previously served for fourteen years in the Archives of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, where he was Senior Associate Archivist.
According to Tenacre’s website, its mission is, "to cherish and demonstrate the truths of Christian Science and to apply these truths to every aspect of living and working together." Located in Princeton, New Jersey, Tenacre has a Christian Science Nursing Department, the Tenacre School of Christian Science Nursing, Christian Scientists-in-Residence, Tenacre Visitor Accommodations, and the Spiritual Resource Library.
