Mrs. Eddy's Last Class, Laura Lathrop finds Christian Science, and the healing work of Emma Thompson

September 7, 2009

Judge Hanna gives a first-person eyewitness account of what it was like to be a student in the  “Last Class”; a healing of heart disease and a life transformed; and the beginnings of Christian Science in Minneapolis.

In conjunction with next Monday's Image Gallery that looks at Mary Baker Eddy's last public class in 1898, is a short account from The Christian Science Journal, written by Judge Septimus J. Hanna, who was one of its nearly seventy students.

As one of the earliest and most loyal Christian Scientists working in New York, Laura Lathrop devoted her life to the cause of Christian Science. Her article in the Christian Science Sentinel of December 24, 1904, tells the story of her healing of heart disease by Mrs. Eddy, and of her spiritual rebirth.

Pioneer Christian Science practitioner Emma Thompson planted some of the first seeds of Christian Science in Minneapolis, Minnesota, through her remarkable healing practice and total devotion to Christian Science.
