Longyear Museum is the recipient of two New England Museum Association 2010 Publication Awards. Longyear received the Judge’s Choice Award in the “Websites” category and Honorable Mention in the “E-news” category.
“This award puts the Longyear Museum in very good company at the top ranks of our region’s institutions,” said NEMA Executive Director Dan Yaeger when announcing the Museum’s Judge’s Choice Award. “Graphic communication is vital to connecting a museum with its community, so their success with publications reflects their success in their overall operations as well.”
When commenting on the Longyear website, www.longyear.org, the competition judges said in part, “… [the website] seemed appropriate to the subject matter without feeling dated or stuffy. The navigation did a good job of revealing information as it was needed. The historical images were nicely used and placed in context. Overall an on-target site that enhanced the content.”
For this competition, 78 museums entered 241 publications in 19 categories. Longyear will be recognized, and the Museum’s work will be exhibited, at the 92nd Annual NEMA Conference in November 2010.
NEMA’s mission is “to strengthen member museums and museums in the region.” According to the NEMA website, “…NEMA fosters communication and ethical conduct; provides professional development; promotes excellence in museum operations; and encourages support for the museum community.”
