Recently, two of the decorative outdoor objects from Mary Baker Eddy’s Pleasant View residence — the gracious granite entry arch with gates, and the classically ornamental water fountain — underwent conservation treatment. This process was photo-documented, and we are pleased to share bits and pieces of it with you via this image gallery.

Anne McCauley, Longyear’s Director of Development, was the keynote speaker at Harvest Weekend at Camp Kohahna in Leelanau, Michigan, last month. On Saturday, October 8, Harvest Weekend participants heard her address, “Getting to Know the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science: Insights on the Spiritual Journey of Mary Baker Eddy.”

In April 2011, Tom Fuller, who holds a D.Sc. in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis, gave an illustrated talk at Longyear Museum in which he examined the natural sciences in the light of Christian Science by considering the remarkable twentieth-century discoveries in astronomy, chemistry, and quantum physics.

Last month Longyear welcomed more than 80 visitors to two Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses during the tenth annual “Trails and Sails.” This Essex National Heritage Commission event featured tours at the Museum’s historic houses in Amesbury and Swampscott, Massachusetts, and free activities at more than 100 other historic, cultural, and natural sites in Essex County.
