EDWARD A. KIMBALL, C.S.D.
When Christian Science treatment healed him of a persistent
physical disability, Edward Kimball was a successful manufacturer
in Chicago. In 1888 and 1889 he took Christian Science classes
from Mary Baker Eddy, and in 1890, retired from business to devote
himself to the advancement of Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy asked
him to take charge of the Christian Science presentation for the
Parliament of Religions at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.
He was active in First Church of Christ, Scientist, Chicago, and
was elected its First Reader in 1894. Following further class
instruction from Mrs. Eddy in 1898, he became a teacher of Christian
Science, in Chicago. He was also named to the Christian Science
Board of Lectureship, and it is estimated that he gave over 1,000
lectures during the nine years he served in that capacity. In
1899 Mr. Kimball was one of the first teachers appointed to the
Christian Science Board of Education, and he assisted Mrs. Eddy
in the 1901 revision of her book Science and Health with Key
to the Scriptures. Mr. Kimball proposed at the 1902 Annual
Meeting of The First Church of Christ, Scientist that $2 million
be raised to build an extension to the Original Edifice of The
Mother Church. The Extension was dedicated in June 1906.
