LAURA LATHROP, C.S.D..
An invalid until healed through Christian Science treatment in 1885, Laura Lathrop became one of Mary Baker Eddy's early students from the Midwest. Soon after her healing she took Primary class instruction in Christian Science from Caroline D. Noyes, a student of Mrs. Eddy, and began the healing practice of Christian Science immediately. In the fall of that same year, 1885, she went to Boston for class instruction from Mrs. Eddy. She had further instruction, a Normal class, from Mrs. Eddy in 1886, and later, a third class. At Mrs. Eddy's urging, Mrs. Lathrop went to New York City, and for twenty-six years she practiced and taught there, helping to establish First and Second Churches of Christ, Scientist, New York. In 1899, when the Christian Science Board of Education was inaugurated, Mrs. Lathrop was elected an officer. When her son, John Lathrop, was elected First Reader of The Mother Church in 1911, she moved with him to the Boston area, where she continued teaching and the healing practice of Christian Science.
