LAURA ELLEN SARGENT, C.S.D..
Born in Oconto, Wisconsin, Laura Sargent was healed through Christian Science in 1883. In 1884, she was a student in the only Christian Science class taught by Mary Baker Eddy in Chicago. Later that same year she was a member of Mrs. Eddy's Primary class in Boston, and in 1886 took Normal class from her. The following year, Mrs. Sargent taught her first Christian Science Primary class in Marinette, Wisconsin. She and her sister, Victoria, actively supported the building of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Oconto, dedicated in February 1887, the first structure in the world built for Christian Science services. Mrs. Sargent was a key figure in Mrs. Eddy's household from 1890 to 1910.After Mrs. Eddy's passing, Mrs. Sargent served as custodian of Mrs. Eddy's home at 400 Beacon Street in Chestnut Hill. In 1913, she taught the Normal class of the Christian Science Board of Education.
