Longyear Museum
VALUES
Longyear
aspires to the highest expression of responsible historical scholarship
on the life and works of Mary Baker Eddy in a context that recognizes
and values the spiritual substance of her discovery and life work.
Longyear
takes most seriously Mrs. Eddy's admonition, "Mere historic
incidents and personal events are frivolous and of no moment,
unless they illustrate the ethics of Truth." (Retrospection
and Introspection)
Longyear
remains true to its identity as an independent historical institution.
As such it does not take on pastoral functions nor teach the practice
of Christian Science. Its programs should, however, inspire as
well as educate.
Longyear
welcomes everyone and regards its primary audience as individuals
of every age and background who appreciate the spiritual depth
of Mary Baker Eddy's life and the pioneering spirit of early workers
in Christian Science.
Longyear
values, preserves and protects its expanding collection, and shares
it through research, exhibits, historic sites, programs and publications.
Longyear
strives to create an atmosphere of welcome and warm service, and
to be a safe haven for spiritual discovery, free from personal
agendas and opinion.
Longyear
treasures the fact that its trustees and staff strive to demonstrate
Christian Science in their daily lives, their dealings with each
other and with visitors to the Museum.
