[Video] The "Next Friends" Lawsuit

As the 20th century dawned and Mary Baker Eddy’s celebrity grew, public thought was polarized. Thousands felt love and gratitude for her and for her discovery, Christian Science. Others fell prey to hatred and disdain, led by famous names like newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer, magazine publisher Sam McClure, and author Mark Twain. This enmity surfaced in a Pulitzer-instigated lawsuit which attacked Mrs. Eddy’s role as Leader of the Christian Science movement. How she met and mastered this challenge in the press and in the courts is told in a riveting 15-minute video, “Answer to the King,” excerpted from Longyear's feature-length documentary film “Follow and Rejoice.”
