Year-end Giving Reminders

December 08, 2017

As December comes to a close, we are approaching the end of our fiscal year. Your gift to Longyear’s Annual Appeal will help us meet our 2017 budget. Longyear needs the support of its members and friends to help us further our mission to advance the understanding of the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy — and we are very grateful for each and every gift.

In addition to donating to our Annual Appeal, here are several other ways in which you can support our work:

IRA Charitable Rollover

In 2015, the IRA Charitable Rollover became permanent. This means that individuals can donate up to $100,000 of a required minimum distribution to a public charity without treating it as taxable income. If you need to take a minimum distribution from an IRA this year or next, donating it directly to Longyear could potentially save you income taxes while supporting our work. Talk to your financial planner, and read this Longyear article on IRA Charitable Rollovers, to see if this option is best for you.

Amazon Smile and Longyear

Did you know that if you designate Longyear Museum as your charity of choice on Amazon Smile, Amazon will donate .5% of the purchase price to us? You’d be surprised how quickly this adds up! Simply go to smile.amazon.com and choose Longyear Foundation as your charity of choice.

Meaningful Gifts this Christmas: Living Stones and Gifts of Membership

Still looking for that perfect gift for a loved one? Consider a Living Stone — a brick engraved with their name to be placed in the Pleasant View Walkway this spring. Or, why not give them a one-year membership to Longyear? Either way, these gifts are sure to fit!

Donating Appreciated Stock to Longyear

Gifting appreciated stock to Longyear can be a mutual blessing. Not only does the donor receive a tax deduction, but he or she also reduces capital gains taxes. Read this previously published Longyear article on the subject, and talk with your financial planner to learn more.

All of us at Longyear Museum are so grateful for the good already received, and we wish you a very happy Christmas and a blessed New Year!
