400 Beacon Street: Special Tours at Annual Meeting

Friday, May 31

Monday, June 3

Tuesday, June 4

Longyear members and friends visiting the Boston area for the 2024 Annual Meeting of The Mother Church are warmly invited to special tours of Mary Baker Eddy’s final residence in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Especially for those coming from long distances, this is an opportunity to see the home, which Longyear Museum has recently finished restoring from top to bottom, inside and out.

Walking in today, you will step back to 1908—to the time when Mrs. Eddy and her household moved into this gracious building, which served for three years as the active executive headquarters of the early Christian Science movement. The house also provided a warm sense of home and family life to her and her household members, and you can visit all of their rooms, which are now fully furnished.

Through engaging exhibits and informative guides, we hope you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the achievements of the 400 Beacon Street period, as well as the ordinary details of day-to-day life in the early 1900s. You’ll enjoy getting to know some of Mrs. Eddy’s staunchest workers and gaining fresh insights into the life and work of the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science.

Each tour is expected to last about an hour. Spaces are limited. The house will open for regular tours on the weekends starting June 14, and we invite local friends to join us at that time.
