Facilities Specialist

Longyear Museum is now accepting applications for a full-time Facilities Specialist. This position is based out of the Museum offices in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, but will also work at the Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses across New England as needed. The ideal candidate will be experienced in carpentry, drywall, plumbing, painting, and general maintenance. The Facilities Specialist must also be detail oriented, dependable, and able to multi-task. He or she must also be a team player and have good communication skills. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is preferred.

Finance and Business Assistant

The Finance and Business Assistant is a full-time role based at the Museum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. This position plays an integral role in supporting a range of activities within the Finance Department and the Museum store. The position is responsible for recording income, store revenue, and donations, maintaining reconciliations across several financial databases, and assisting with controls for store inventory. Other activities include assistance with filings, disbursement activities, and working at the front desk. An ideal candidate will have an aptitude for dealing with numbers and learning financial systems, as well as attention to detail. A college degree in a financial specialty or equivalent work experience in a financial or office manager role are preferred. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science class instruction are preferred.

NEW Mary Baker Eddy Historic House Site Manager

Concord, N.H.

A full-time, live-in Historic House Site Manager is needed for the care and maintenance of the Mary Baker Eddy Historic House located in Concord, New Hampshire. Job responsibilities include giving tours, cleaning, gardening, and light maintenance at the house. The Historic House Site Manager is also the main point of contact for Longyear in Concord. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science class instruction is required.

Mary Baker Eddy Historic House Site Manager

Rumney and North Groton, N.H.

A full-time Historic House Site Manager is needed for the care and maintenance of the Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses located in North Groton and Rumney, New Hampshire. The Historic House Site Manager lives in the Rumney house, while also caring for the North Groton property. Job responsibilities include giving tours, cleaning, gardening, and light maintenance at both properties. The Historic House Site Manager is also the main point of contact for Longyear in these two communities. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science class instruction is required.

Mary Baker Eddy Historic House Site Manager

Swampscott and Lynn, Mass.

A full-time Historic House Site Manager is needed for the care and maintenance of the Longyear Museum Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses located in Lynn and Swampscott, Massachusetts. The Historic House Site Manager lives in the Swampscott house, while also caring for the Lynn property. Job responsibilities include giving tours, cleaning, gardening, and light maintenance at both properties. The Historic House Site Manager is also the main point of contact for Longyear in these two communities. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Christian Science class instruction is required.

Visitor Services Representative and Museum Store Coordinator

Longyear Museum is now accepting applications for a full-time Visitor Services Representative and Museum Store Coordinator. This position oversees all store operations, including handling inventory controls, product development, restocking, in-store and website sales, and shipping and tracking orders. He or she generates and maintains regular inventory, sales, and cost reports for executive management. As a member of the Visitor Services team, the Visitor Services Representative is the first point of contact with the public, both in person and over the phone, and oversees the front desk operations. Prior retail or sales experience is a plus. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is required. Christian Science class instruction is preferred.

Visitor Services Staff

Longyear Museum is now accepting applications for part-time Museum Store and Visitor Services staff to serve on the weekends. These positions are the first point of contact with the public, both in person and over the phone, and oversee the front desk operations. Strong communication skills and a warm sense of hospitality are key. Prior retail or sales experience is a plus. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is required. Christian Science class instruction is preferred.

Seasonal Guides

On-call and part-time seasonal guides are needed for all eight of Longyear Museum’s Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Guides will conduct tours and assist with daily Historic House operations including tour admission, house museum shop, bookkeeping, light cleaning, and opening and closing the historic house. Applicants should have an interest in the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy as the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science. Strong communication skills and basic computer skills are a must. Availability to work some weekends and a flexible schedule is a plus. Membership in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is required.

Internships at Longyear

Longyear Museum offers a paid summer internship program for college students. The program typically lasts six to eight weeks. Opportunities exist in many of the Museum’s departments, which include: Collections, Communications, Research, Development, Historic Houses and Education, Facilities, Finance, and Visitor Services. Interns gain valuable on-the-job work experience while learning more about the life and work of Mary Baker Eddy through interaction with Longyear’s collection and programs.
