Annual Operating Costs

It’s important for you, as a supporter of Longyear, to understand the impact of your philanthropy. A breakdown of our annual budget is below.

2025 Annual Budget

Operating the Museum and the eight Mary Baker Eddy Historic Houses costs approximately $5 million annually.

Expenses by Category

Total budget: $5 million

Mary Beecher Longyear left her foundation a modest trust fund, valued today at approximately $16 million. Over the years, individual donors and the Longyear Board of Trustees have added to our long-term investments. Together with Mrs. Longyear’s trust, our total endowments stand today at just over $26 million.

These investments provide approximately $1.5 million toward our $5 million operating expenses each year. The generous philanthropy of Longyear members and friends makes up the difference each year and is essential in meeting our annual budget.

Endowment income as percentage of budget

Endowment principal: $26 million
Total operating expenses: $5 million

Funding for capital projects is in addition to the operating budget and comes entirely from those who recognize the importance of preserving Mary Baker Eddy’s history today and for years to come.
