Meet some of the early Christian Science workers

A unique part of Longyear’s collection is the nearly 150 portraits of key individuals from the early days of the Christian Science movement. Many of these portraits were commissioned by Mary Beecher Longyear, who foresaw the value in recording the history of these pioneer Christian Scientists. Here, you’ll find these images paired with short biographical sketches inspired by a classic Longyear publication, Pioneers in Christian Science. Accounts of many of these individuals are shared in greater detail elsewhere on this website (follow the embedded links), while for others, their fuller stories are still waiting to be told.
