Since 2006, individuals have been able to support charitable organizations like Longyear directly from their individual retirement accounts (IRAs) while enjoying valuable tax benefits. Have you explored this option?
In 2026, individuals age 70½ and older may make tax-free qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) of up to $111,000. For those age 73 and older, these gifts can also satisfy all or part of their annual required minimum distribution (RMD).
Processing a donation through a QCD is easy!
If you’d like to learn how to make your gift by Dec. 31, 2026, please download our pdf, “A Tax-Smart Way to Support Longyear in 2026.”
Other ways to give
Longyear also offers charitable gift annuities (CGAs) and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs), which can provide income to donors while supporting our mission.
If you have considered a charitable gift annuity, we can help! CGAs offer attractive benefits: dependable, fixed payments for life (regardless of market performance); potential tax advantages when funded with appreciated securities; and the satisfaction of making a meaningful gift that will benefit generations to come. CGAs support Longyear while maintaining your financial security in retirement. A mutual blessing!
IRS rules allow a one-time QCD of up to $55,000 in 2026 to fund certain charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts. This amount counts toward the annual $111,000 QCD limit and is excluded from taxable income.
