Longyear Announces $250,000 Match

Your gift to Longyear Museum can now have twice the impact! Thanks to a generous group of donors, we are delighted to announce a $250,000 matching challenge—the largest in our history. Every gift will be matched dollar for dollar, doubling its impact on Longyear’s mission.

“Longyear simply cannot fulfill its mission without our supporters,” says Director of Development John Mitchell. “This extraordinary matching opportunity allows us to accomplish even more together, preserving and sharing Mary Baker Eddy’s remarkable life and work.”

A visitor views Mary Baker Eddy’s portrait at 400 Beacon Street in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where Mrs. Eddy lived from 1908 to 1910.

Longyear’s historic house tours, programs, publications, and exhibits all serve a vital purpose: keeping Mary Baker Eddy—the Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science—before the public and uppermost in the hearts of Christian Scientists. Her secretary William Rathvon, C.S.B., once expressed the importance of keeping “her memory green and her achievements fresh in the minds of those who follow.” Our work does that.

This year brought wonderful new opportunities to share her story. At 400 Beacon Street, Mrs. Eddy’s final home, we introduced a tour of artwork in the house and hosted a Family Day. Our media team produced an in-depth video exploring the First Members of her reorganized church in 1892, while our creative staff developed new educational resources, including a delightful children’s coloring book about her life.

Our goal is to raise $1 million by December 31 to support Longyear’s ongoing work and operating expenses. With this generous matching challenge, each gift brings us closer to that goal.

We are deeply grateful for your participation, generosity, and commitment to Longyear’s mission. Thank you for helping us share Mrs. Eddy’s story today, and with generations to come!
