Effie Andrews, C.S.B.

Portrait by Susan Ricker Knox. Original Longyear Collection.

EFFIE ANDREWS served the Cause of Christian Science for over 25 years. She became a member of The Mother Church in 1894, entered the Christian Science practice in 1895, and was a founding member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, New York City, later that same year. Upon Mrs. Eddy’s recommendation, Effie was elected a First Member of The Mother Church in 1898. That same year, she and her daughter, E. Rose Cochrane of Edinburgh, Scotland, were invited to attend Mrs. Eddy’s last class, the “class of seventy.” Christian Scientists always found a friendly welcome at Mrs. Andrews’ home on 57th Street in New York.
