Biography

BLISS KNAPP, son of Ira O. and Flavia S. Knapp, early students of Mary Baker Eddy, was born in Lyman, New Hampshire. In 1904, about three years after graduating from Harvard College, Bliss was appointed to the Christian Science Board of Lectureship on Mrs. Eddy’s recommendation. He lectured until 1922, and again from 1927 to 1930. He also served on the Bible Lesson Committee and as First Reader of The Mother Church. Mr. Knapp became an authorized teacher in 1907, following Normal class under the Christian Science Board of Education. Bliss Knapp served as President of The Mother Church in 1912, and was one of the speakers at the Annual Meeting in 1941. During this meeting, he recalled his impressions of Mrs. Eddy, and his recollections were later published in We Knew Mary Baker Eddy.
