Join us for Family Day this Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026 from 12 to 4 P.M. at 400 Beacon Street, Mary Baker Eddy’s final residence in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Mrs. Eddy and her household moved into 400 Beacon Street in 1908. More than a private residence, it served as the executive headquarters of the Christian Science movement. Come explore the house and grounds!
We will have a variety of family-oriented activities:
- Join a 30-minute kid-friendly house tour.
- Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage.
- Explore our recently restored carriage house.
- Enjoy listening to A Home for Spike while making a craft.
- Play time period games on the front lawn.
- Make your own butter in the historic kitchen.
- And more!
Family Day is recommended for ages 4 through 15, but all are welcome to this day of family fun! The event is free and so is the food truck that will provide grilled cheese sandwiches for attendees. To ensure we have enough food and supplies, please register below:

Event Details
- Directions: We have found Google Maps to give reliable directions to our location.
- Parking: Parking will be at the West Gate, behind the carriage house. Look for our “Private Event Parking” sign. Staff members will be available to direct guests.
- Entrance: Stairs lead from parking to the event. For strollers and accessibility needs, our pedestrian gate will be open.
- Photography: Photos will be taken at this event, including of children attending. These photos will be used for marketing purposes, in print publications, and on the Longyear website. If you do not want your own photo—or your children’s—taken, let us know during check in. Please note that flash photography and selfie-sticks are not permitted inside the main house.
- Food: Complimentary lunch will be provided during Family Day. However, food or drinks, including water bottles and children’s drink containers, are not permitted inside.
- Bag policy: No bags larger than 4 by 7 inches are permitted during the tour of the house. We have a secure bag check for larger bags inside the house.
- Changing table: We will have a changing table available inside the bathroom on the ground floor of the house, where diaper bags will be permitted.
- Strollers: Strollers are not permitted in the house, and parents should plan on carrying very young children during the tour. Strollers are permissible when touring the grounds and carriage house.
- Accessibility: The main house and carriage house are accessible. Within the house, an elevator is available for those needing it, as are a few folding chairs at some locations. Longyear provides wheelchairs for use in the house. (Wheelchairs brought by visitors are only permissible in the exhibit space in the Visitor Center.)
Because various activities during the event will take place outside, please dress accordingly. Maps will be available at check-in to help you find your way around the property and locate all the activities.
